What’s In A Name?
WHAT’S IN A NAME
Put a baby name book in front of an expectant mother and the rest of the story is very revealing.
It would take the birth of my new grandson to bring to light the power of what’s in a name!
In the course of having more time than normal on her hands while on maternity bed rest my daughter took the time to read and research for a meaningful name from a grand Baby Name book …
Riley McRae … entered our world on April 26, 2008, as grandson number One. He is a gentleman to be reckoned with; strength is apparent; rolling over at 13 weeks and determined to sit up at 15 weeks. Oh, in the Life of Riley, his mom shares that his red-hair temper has appeared… (His Daddy and his Grandma have red hair too.)

Riley and Mom
The Life of Riley You tell ‘em, Riley!
While recently visiting and getting acquainted with Riley, she told me ‘Mom, your name (Rhonee) and you don’t match’. ‘But wait, your birth name Veronica and you do match,’ she went on.
There are no instruction books or manual for whom and how we become… but are there much deeper roots that are predetermined in the timing of when we are born and what we are named?
Let’s get back to the baby name book and the power of the meaning given to each name. So, how much power is there in the name we are given versus the name we use and are called… How our alphabet and numeric systems are integrated has a very complex history. That is a much deeper conversation for another time.
Many years ago when I was born, named and nick-named all the same day, there was the original name, the one on that piece of paper called a birth certificate, but that was not the name THEY chose to call me from the day I was born. THEY being a French nurse, as Mom didn’t have a clue what to name this little very long red-haired gal, who didn’t look like anyone in any of our families. A stranger had arrived.
So what does my real name mean to my life path in this stage of my game? Is there a predestined path at work? Apparently there is more power in our name than we fully understand.
So being lost in nick-name land – it is time to get back to what’s in a name. I have never been called by my real name throughout my life. For a week or so in the third grade I tried out Sherry. I first discovered the consequences of my birth name the year I chose to use my first name… a third grader was more than traumatized by the extreme teasing. Kids can be very cruel. That choice didn’t last long.
Over the years I have changed the spelling of my nick-name and with each I have experienced major changes in the outcome of my destiny… the map of my journey seemed to have major twists and turns.
My birth name is Sherry Veronica: Sherry, meaning fertile plains, sweet wine; Veronica, true image, victory bringer, my song; also Veronica in biblical references as the woman who wiped the face of Jesus while on his crucifixion journey and his image transferred to her handkerchief.
Once again everything has changed, shifted and with the feeling of being lost, maybe I have just been found on the pages of a baby name book, true meaning… and a new road map for my journey; another reason to consider the power of my birth name. Even now it seems appropriate that I choose a change, and I choose my middle name: Veronica. A middle child, in mid-life.. crisis, well over the hump!
By the book experiences!
In my own journey of exploration and discovery I have also looked at astrology, and one doesn’t have to look long or hard to find that a true reflection is upon the pages. Paying close attention is very revealing and insightful. When I first read my astrology and there I was paragraph after paragraph, mirrored exactly.
How do they do that? Are we that predictable?
Are we all so much alike? More the same than different or somewhere along the line our groups got together and said let’s play this game by these rules.
When I look back, and we all know hindsight is very powerful. My own course of direction has had its roots in self discovery and personal destiny of ‘to thine own self be true’. With the many changes of the spelling of my nick-name and thus my experiences, shifts in the energy of my life path has had its twists and turns. My life path has been filled with much change, constantly being faced with transitions and always finding my way but seemingly without a map, feeling tugged right along a path of an open road ahead.
That journey of traveler has significance in that I was born under the astrological sign of Sagittarius, which has traveler and master teacher as its major roles. My career path has always provided roles of leader and teacher, and also taken me into role of vision quest coaching, the creative processes of life design. “Are you singing the song you came to sing?” is the discovery of who you really are, what is your passion and purpose.
Well, I do admit I could not be closer to the edge. A star is born as I relocate once again; the literal fertile plains of Idaho. For the rest of the story, check back as I explore, rediscover who I was born to be…come.
Today there are many teachings that speak to the issues of our heart path. UNTIL we truly come into alignment with our soul journey we will find ourselves on this path of being pushed to the edge.
With all the changes I am embracing, blessing and taking to heart I will also make the change and resume my real name which has its meaning of Vision, voice, values, victory =
Veronica. Welcome Back!
